The family claims the fear of NRC behind the death of the Old Man in Calcutta

A 63 -year -old man died in Kalcutta on Sunday, August 3, 2025, and claimed that he was afraid that his family would be sent to Bangladesh if the National Citizen Registration (NRC) was applied.
Dilip Kumar, a personnel who is not a teacher in a private school in Dhakuria, Southern Kolkata, came to Nawabganj in 1972 to Kalcutta from Dakta and lived in the Regent Park area. Saha’s wife said that he was watching television news and that he was worried about the implementation of NRC in the state.
Aarti Saha, the wife of the deceased, said, “He was under severe stress for a long time … He was afraid to be sent to an detention camp and then pushed back to Bangladesh where no one was. There was no valid voter identity card and other documents,” he said.
Before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, there were concerns about the implementation of the NRC in West Bengal and the people in the state, especially when the leaders of BJP would watched NRC, a sense of panic spreading among the people in the state. Western Bengal Prime Minister and Trinamool Congress President Mamata Bannerjee said in September 2019 that six people were killed due to fear of NRC in Western Bengal. The Western Bengal Power Minister and the local trinamool Congress Mla Arup Biswas reached the family members of the deceased.
