Colombo: Police said Sri Lanka’s former president Ranil Wickremesyinghe was arrested on Friday because it was allegedly abusing state funds.
In September 2023, he is accused of using state funds to travel to England to attend a meeting ceremony of his wife Prof Maithree.
It was claimed that Wickremesinghe returned from the United States after an official participation and visited England at the expense of the state to participate in his wife’s private participation.
The CID had previously questioned his staff about travel costs.
