Minister of Law says India will soon be the center of arbitration

Emphasizing the importance of corporate arbitration, the Minister of Law Arjun Ram Meghwal said that on Saturday, June 14, 2025, India needs a strong alternative dispute resolution ecosystem that will reduce the burden on the courts and strengthen the economic confidence in the country.

‘Corporate Arbitration: The Ministry of Legal Affairs, the Ministry of Law and Justice organized by Bharat Mandapam’ Corporate Arbitration: An effective framework for dispute resolution ‘Speaking Meghwal, organizations, to contribute to the protection of the interest and the construction of the nation should be ready to be both flexible and strict, he said.

“We need to provide a live ecosystem for an alternative dispute resolution with arbitration, mediation and reconciliation. This will offer additional convenience to investors and businessmen. More importantly, it will reduce the burden of the cases in the Indian courts,” he said.

Mr Meghwal, which is called as a part of Indian culture, said that the concept is “distorted” and other countries has become the center of international arbitration.

“India will soon emerge as the new center of international arbitration,” he added.

The words of the minister came after the OngC President Arun Kumar Singh pointed out that the perfect arbitration ‘time -depended’ procedure for business ecosystem should be performed. He also said that the arbitration should be “more institutional” and “less legal”.

Law Secretary Anju Rathi Rana, who pointed out the government’s efforts to make arbitration faster and easier, said that a recent directive from the Ministry of Legal Affairs was forced to reduce judicial interventions and use institutional interventions, not institutional arbitration.

The President of the Indian International Arbitration Center, Justice (RETD) Hemant Gupta, rather than a temporary system to solve commercial disputes, put pressure on a change in the mentality of the parties to go to corporate fortifications.
