Parker Messick is closed to one of the best rookie jugs you’ve never heard
If you told me it wasn’t locked on August calls for a Cleveland Guardians team, I couldn’t keep it against you. To be honest, I wouldn’t be uncomfortable if you told me that the only thing you know about the team this year could not stop gambling in games.
Nevertheless, the Cleveland shooting factory may have found a rough diamond in 24 -year -old Parker Messick. The selection of the 2022 second round of Florida Province was seen as a draft option with a low ceiling, but perhaps Cleveland was the right organization to help improve the speed of minors.
The increase in speed never came, but the stuck was the ability to attack the strike area. The college was able to fill the region consistently through the minors and now along the main branches.
Messick is the second player who is allowed to run twice, one or less running, consisting of only 6 plus strikes on the date of MLB, and starts a career twice with one or less walking. The only player who attracts this is Joe Musgrove, who has been a very successful career since he joined Padres in 2021.
This season was a great disappointment for Cleveland, a team that won three wins from a world series view last year. Then the suspension of Luis Ortiz and Emmanuel Clase killed any acceleration for the deadline after the late season or trade.
However, Messick quickly became a valuable contribution to this staff. It is too early to fully judge its advanced metrics, but early returns are encouraging.
In the minors, 29.2% strike ratio (80. Persentil), .267 XWOBA (83. Persentil) and 30.5% odor ratio (70. Persentyl). Now on the main branches, it has not made enough strokes for percentage rankings, but a 24% strike ratio, a 29.6% odor ratio and 2.84 Xera – one of the best of baseball.
If you don’t hit hard, if you miss the bats and limit the walks, you will be successful in the main branches. Messick does it allwith a fastball playing due to the extension it has entered its delivery.
The 2025 season felt like one to be forgotten in Cleveland, but can Messic change this look? Gavin Williams and Logan Allen have brought together the best seasons of their careers, and if John or Tanner Bibee could return next year, this rotation may be much less weak in 2026.
Now, how does Guardians understand the other side of baseball? This is a more difficult question.
