Assam NIT suspends 5 Bangladesh students for campus violence

The National Institute of Technology in Silchar (NIT) in South Assam (NIT) suspended five Bangladeshi students for their campus roles on September 8th.

On September 12, the NIT SILCHAR registration officer issued an order that explains that he was “academic suspension and immediately deported from the hostel for two terms”. The suspension is in force until June 2026, the order is read.

On Monday, September 5, 2025, NIT officials said that these students were trained in the Indian Cultural Relations Council and Indian scholarships.

NIT Director Dilip Kumar Baidya said that students will be sent back to Bangladesh and said, “We have enough evidence to determine that they are actively involved in campus violence”.

Violence erupted on the night of September 8, allegedly attacked another group of a group of third -grade students in the NIT board. Witnesses, rods, knives and screwdrivers with the attackers who are equipped with screwdrivers targeted the students of Bangladesh in the last year.

A few students were admitted to Silchar Medical College and Hospital for ongoing injuries during the attack that lasted about 30 minutes. Two of the wounded are in the intensive care unit of the hospital.

Students’ welfare Dean SS Dhar, the investigation into the incident and the result of the disciplinary penalty is satisfactory, he said.
